Job Summary

Small Arms Repairer will primarily be responsible for the quality assurance and maintenance on a wide range of small arms equipment. Major emphasis placed on OPTICS REPAIR of mortar sights, artillery sights M198 and various equipment. The repairer will diagnose and locate mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, carbines, automatic rifles, submachine and machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, along with other small arms and accessories.

Duties include disassembly of weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components, examine for defects, mechanical misalignment and malfunctions; replace barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies; will modify small arms weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies; use hand and machine tools, precision gauges and test instruments, and jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments; apply acids and/or other bluing or finishing agents; test fire and/or make operational checks of repaired weapons to assure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma/GED and must have at least knowledge of the tools (i.e. hammers, punches, files, stones, etc.) and gauges needed to perform assigned duties, has limited knowledge in the operation of gun-smiting machinery such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, etc., as well as limited knowledge of tooling used with those machines, knowledge of basic shop safety procedures needed to work in a small arms environment, performs support functions for the shop, to include bead blasting and preparing metal parts for refinishing. Other support functions include, but are not limited to, ammo inventory and residue turn-in, publication and catalogue updates, tool and capital equipment maintenance, calibration control, weapons cleaning and organizational level weapons maintenance. This person may assist primary instructor in conducting Armorer s courses on specific small arms systems.

  2. Must be able to pass background clearance for DD Form 2760 Firearms or Ammunition - AA&E to handle Arm Ammunitions & Explosives.

  3. This Position will be for the LMMT Smart East Travel Team.

  4. This position may require computer literacy

  5. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).

  6. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

  7. This position requires a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
