Job Summary

Performs construction, removal, and rearrangement of open-wire, fiber optic and carrier cable communication equipment. Examines work orders and wiring diagram to determine installation or repair procedures. Inspects connections, fittings, and installed wire and cable sections for conformance to specifications.

Installs, tests, and repairs communications equipment, such as intercom systems, wired alarms, switchboards, telegraphs, telephones, antennas and sub-assemblies and radios using schematic diagrams, testing devices, and hand tools. Assembles telephone equipment, mounts brackets, and connects wire leads. Tests newly installed equipment and repairs or replaces faulty equipment, using test telephone and other testing devices. Installs equipment according to layout plans and connects units with inside and outside service wires. Maintains equipment and analyzes operational malfunctioning with testing devices, such as oscilloscopes, generators, meters, and electric bridges, to locate and diagnose nature of defect and necessary repairs. Examines mechanism and disassembles components to replace, clean, adjust or repair parts, wires, switches, relays, circuits, or signaling units. Operates and tests equipment to ensure elimination of malfunction. Climbs poles to install or repair outside services lines. May repair cables, lay out plans for new equipment and estimate materials required. Able to perform with minimal supervision basic installation of LAN/WAN equipment, wiring, and topography. Assists with complicated installation of LAN/WAN equipment, wiring, and topography.

Other duties as assigned when required to meet the taskings of the SWTTR.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Experience Requirement

-Four years experience in Telecommunications Installation and Maintenance

-Four years experience in the following disciplines/equipment:

  • Telephone/Network Switches

  • Networking, Routers, Hubs, Repeaters and Bridges, DSU's

  • Wiring/Cabling

  • Video Systems

  • Fiber Optics

  • UHF/VHF/Microwave

  • Transmitters, antennas

-Ability to speak, read, and write English

Minimum Position-Specific Training Required

-Formal classroom education equivalent to Navy "C" School or vocational school with formal training in the field of electronic equipment maintenance and equipment manufacturer training

-Tower climbing training

  • Possess a valid state Driver's License

  • Possess and maintain an active DoD Security clearance

Must maintain current CPR/First Aid certification

DoD 8570.1 Approved Baseline Certification for IAT NetworkFall Protection Safety & Rescue Certification – Received 6 months within hire.
